exciting new program smoothes the road to better posture and fitness

NEW YORK (November 12, 2012) – IM=X® Pilates, Inc., a New York-based fitness company announces the introduction of IM=X® Floor Motion, a new group fitness program, which blends core strength and flexibility moves into a floor exercise routine.  With seamless transitions and innovative choreography, this class is for anyone who wants to improve strength, flexibility,  and posture while moving smoothly through their workout.

It is a class without “sets” and “reps,” a choreographed “floor dance” in which one exercise progresses seamlessly into the next.  The exercises are arranged in specific sequences designed to effectively challenge the body while providing an interesting, enjoyable workout.   Unique to IM=X® Floor Motion, the transitions between exercises and sequences keep the class moving and easily guide the student from one exercise into the next. As with other IM=X® programs, Floor Motion incorporates some Pilates-style moves but emphasizes strength training, postural stabilization, and sequencing not inherent in traditional style Pilates.

IM=X® Floor Motion incorporates the use of an IM=X® Ring, a small, lightweight, resilient hoop that provides resistance for strength development.  The Ring is used to strengthen the arms, shoulders, back, legs, and hips.  The program provides strength and flexibility benefits for the entire body, with particular emphasis on the spine stabilization system, or “core” abdominal and back muscles.  Also uniquely targeted in IM=X® Programs are the pelvic floor muscles, which are important in hip and low back stabilization as well as the prevention and treatment of incontinence and sexual functioning for women.

“Our trainers and clients love this program,” states Elyse McNergney, founder and Chief Executive Officer of IM=X® Pilates, Inc.  “They’ve never seen anything like it.  It is quickly catching on in our IM=X® Pilates Studio franchises across the country.”

IM=X® (Integrated Movement eXercize) programs are cross-conditioning workouts that result in quick toning, muscle efficiency, good posture and core muscle power.  Based on the teachings of J.H. Pilates and the Alexander Technique, the system integrates the physiological principles of strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular training to evoke a higher level of fitness in a shorter period of time than other similar programs.  The  comprehensive programs include resistance training, plyometric jumps, and innovative formats such as Floor Motion, Back Care, Pre- and Post-Natal, Interval Training, and Cardio Training.  IM=X® programs are beneficial for all body types and fitness levels.

IM=X® programs also incorporate the patented Xercizer, an advancement on the Pilates Reformer developed by McNergney in conjunction with MedX96 Inc. The IM=X turn-key package for fitness clubs includes trainer certification, equipment, marketing kits and annual workshops for staff.  The floor exercise equipment, including rings and body bars, provide an opportunity for ancillary sales to clients.

McNergney, who founded IM=X® Pilates, Inc., is an exercise physiologist with a M.Ed. from Columbia University.  She has been teaching and training IM=X® for more than twelve years.  She and the program have been featured in such publications as The New York Times, Shape, Fitness and Fit. Ms. McNergney is also a certified Pilates teacher, Alexander Technique teacher and former choreographer.
